DG Spotlight: Kayla

May 2, 2019

Our next DG Spotlight is on bridal consultant, Kayla!

Kayla has been with DG since August 2015, which means she just celebrated her three year anniversary! Beyond being a dope bridal consultant, Kayla is also our back-of-house paperwork wiz. She keeps us up & running by implemented a brand new computer software system that allows us to better help our brides. She keeps everything neat and orderly to make sure that we can help our brides to the best of our ability.

Kayla graduated with a degree in Costume Design from Sterling College in 2015. She was actively involved in musical theater throughout her life and her background in costume design makes her an irreplaceable part of the team. With her in-depth seamstress knowledge, Kayla is always around to help answer questions regarding alterations or customizations. She always has a smile on her face and is always the first person to jump up and help.

Every bridal consultant has a unique approach to the consultation process. For Kayla, it’s all about how a bride feels in her wedding dress.

“For me, I like to think ‘How does this dress portray her personality? Does it match the venue and vibe she’s going for?’” Kayla said.

Instead of taking overly specific details, Kayla likes to be inspired by her brides. She takes design features they like, along with information about themselves, their wedding plans, and their spouse, and tries to curate a dress that feels authentic to the bride and her vision.

Kayla’s favorite part of working at Dress Gallery is being a part of such an emotional moment in the wedding planning process. “This is probably the most invested part of the journey for most brides,” Kayla said. “Being a part of that and helping create special, emotional moments with a bride is powerful.”

She is an expert at placing a bride’s desires and feelings first, thus creating a supportive and encouraging environment for her brides to confidently say “yes” to their dream dress. Kayla loves the energy brought by an excited entourage and helps channel that energy into a fun appointment for everyone.

Her favorite new trend in bridal is the new “chic” looks across the runway – a step away from the traditional, whimsical, and romantic lace we’ve seen for the last few years.

With a background in costume design and theater, Kayla brings a unique perspective to Dress Gallery. She’s able to envision added details that don’t exist yet or alteration changes that haven’t happened. She can clearly see in her head a finished product, even if the project is far from completion. This makes brides feel confident trusting Kayla with her vision for their bridal gowns should alterations or changes need to be made.

Kayla is also great at walking brides through possible alterations needed and answering any technical questions. While we do not do alterations in house, her expertise in sewing makes her a great asset to the Dress Gallery team to help brides understand the alterations process and what to expect.

Outside of work, Kayla is an active embroiderer and Disney enthusiast. Her and her husband, Mark Allen, love watching Disneyworld vloggers on YouTube. She’s recently picked up hand embroidery and loves creating pieces; one of her most recent was of Cinderella’s castle!

She also loves playing with her cat, Peyton, who features spots in the shape of a smiley face on his back. She also helps teach Financial Peace University classes with her husband in order to help other young couples gain control of their future with their finances. And when asked what her favorite Wichita restaurant is, her answer was definitive: “Dempsey’s Biscuit Co.”

We love Kayla here at DG, but we’re obviously a little biased. Her brides, however, are not. Kayla receives rave reviews weekly from brides who were so grateful for her help in their gown buying process. Taylor, a recent bride of Kayla’s with a wedding date of March 2019, had this to say about Kayla:

I was so blessed to work with Kayla, who was just so encouraging, courteous, and fun to work with! She brought me dresses that were exactly what I *thought* I wanted, but then gave a gentle push when she brought out a “wild card” dress — which I absolutely fell in love with! Completely different than what I thought I wanted, but I am so glad she used her intuition to bring me what became MY dress! I was also able to get my veil AND my six bridesmaids ordered their dresses as well! We all had such a great experience, and I would highly recommend Kayla to ANY bride!

#dgbride: Grace

April 27, 2019

Our next gorgeous #dgbride to be featured is Grace! Grace and her soulmate, Jackson, tied the knot on February 24, 2019 at The Hudson in Wichita, Kansas. Their wedding was the perfect balance between sophisticated, modern, and magical.

Grace wanted to invoke a beautiful, magical winter wedding aesthetic for wedding. Complete with a cascading bouquet and accented with greenery, she achieved this deeply romantic look by focusing on natural beauty instead of busy details. She utilized the talents of Darcy Lowry for wedding planning, which let her enjoy her day stress free! Darcy also made their delicious wedding cake!

When it comes to finding her perfect gown, Grace wasn’t really sure what she was looking for in a gown. She had pinned multiple different styles and design features, hoping to narrow down at her appointment. She ended up falling in love with a beautiful Maggie Sottero gown, complete with lace long sleeves and an accentuating v neck. We were OBSESSED with how Grace’s silhouette looked in this gown!

Grace tried about 13-14 gowns before finding “The One,” but only went to 2 bridal boutiques to make her decision.

“My experience at DG was exceptional!” she said. “Courtney was so so sweet and helpful. I’d recommend Dress Gallery to anyone.”

Grace’s laid back attitude permeated not only her wedding planning, but her big day as well. We so appreciated her mellow demeanor when it came to gown shopping and her down-to-earth attitude makes her the ultimate advice giver for other brides.

“Nothing is worth stressing over,” she said. “The wedding planning and day of the wedding should be FUN and stress free – and also, the wedding day isn’t the goal. Living life everyday with your partner is the goal.”

We totally agree! And when you see how Grace and Jackson look at each other, you can totally tell that they are ultimate #couplegoals.

Congratulations to Grace and Jackson! Thank you so much for choosing Dress Gallery as a part of your special day. We are honored we got to help style you for your absolutely incredible wedding and we wish you all the happiness!

Channeling Our Inner Khaleesi at the Wichita Renaissance Festival

April 19, 2019

So you know the DG girls love a styled photo shoot. We are all about collaborating with other vendors to create a totally unique vision, especially when it allows us to live out our nerdiest fantasies. Like most of the world, we are obsessed with Game of Thrones and wanted to channel that energy and vibe. We were totally inspired by the fabulous fashion on the show but were curious what a modern bride would want in her GoT-inspired wedding. With the Wichita Renaissance Festival in town, it became the perfect backdrop to showcase this beautiful Moonlight Couture gown. Check out some of our favorite images below! (Courtesy of our girl, Shelby Laine Photography, of course!)

We styled our bridal consultant, Kayla, in a beautiful Moonlight Couture gown features a v neck with a criss-cross design and beading. The sleeves are also a flowy, open medieval sleeve that perfectly fits the Renaissance vibe. We love how cozy and warm these shots look with all the different fabric textures surrounding Kayla!

Combined with a crystal necklace and leaf laser cut-out earrings, we wanted the styling for this shoot to be as earthy and natural as possible. We took inspiration from current brides who are loving the mixed metals, crystals, and edgier jewelry for their big day instead of something dainty. The accompanying parasol keeps the vibe whimsical and romantic while also focusing on more Renaissance-specific details. How cute would a photo under this parasol be, kissing your spouse for the first time?!

Kayla is STEALING THE SHOW with this smoky, edgy vibe, complete with bear rug (an antique! We promise!) and deer skull. There’s something hauntingly beautiful surrounding items most would associate with death and decay and instead turning them into symbols of beauty and strength. There are some serious khaleesi vibes with this shoot!

Want to channel your inner queen at your wedding? Come in to Dress Gallery and let us know your wildest dreams – we’d love to make them come true!

We’re Obsessed With the Luyendyk Wedding, Sorry Not Sorry

April 5, 2019

While not everyone on staff loves the reality TV show “The Bachelor” and it’s multiple spin offs, (let’s be honest, it’s only Courtney and Chelsea who watch the show), everyone on staff definitely loves the Luyendyk wedding. While Arie Luyendyk and Lauren Burnham’s relationship may have started off controversially, anyone can see their pure happiness and love for each other looking at their beautiful wedding photos. US Magazine and The Knot gained exclusive access to this fabulous celebrity wedding full of natural tones, whimsical vibes, and a lot of sparkle.

Lauren’s fabulous a-line wedding gown was designed by none other than celebrity wedding designer and friend Hayley Paige. This one-of-a-kind gown featured a flowy and airy skirt, an embellished floral bodice, and a v-neckline adorned with sparkle. The train also featured what we like to call “secret sparkle” throughout!

Arie and Lauren were married in Hawaii and had a stunning ceremony and reception inspired by Twilight: Breaking Dawn. The gold details, romantic accents, and interesting textures created a beautiful and unique wedding. We loved their fun twists on decor and desserts, along with their nod to the Bachelor by including a champagne fountain!

Loving Lauren’s look? Designer Hayley Paige custom created the gown for her friend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t shop her other looks here at Dress Gallery! If you’re loving Lauren’s airy and sparkly look, we have fabulous options at all price points – we’d love to make your sparkly dreams come true!

(Peek how excited Hayley is in the background!)

Lauren’s maids wore ivory dresses and Arie kept his groomsmen classic and chic in black tuxedos. The natural greenery of Hawaii combined with a ton of white flowers created a magical and romantic space that embodied their love – especially when they started their relationship in a nontraditional way. Chris Harrison, the beloved host of Bachelor Nation, officiated the wedding, making this love story come full circle!

Want to emulate Lauren’s dreamy wedding vision? We’ve got the perfect gowns to flatter any body and sparkle just as much as Lauren did on her special day. We can also outfit your groomsmen to look just as sharp and clean as Arie. Let us know you’re loving Hayley Paige’s lines at your appointment and we’d be happy to style you with her designs in mind!

7 Sleeved Wedding Gowns You’ll Love

March 30, 2019

If there’s one wedding dress trend that our brides have totally loved, it’s sleeves. If you would have asked us 5 years ago what we imagined would be popular, we wouldn’t have guessed sleeves, either. They’ve been a total pleasant surprise in wedding design and we love how whimsical and romantic they can make any dress. Below are 7 of our favorite sleeved wedding dresses, all available to try during your appointment at DG.

1. D2602 by Essense of Australia

This deep V neck, floral lace beauty is a total stunner on any body figure. The delicate floral pattern features roses from the appliques on the sleeves to the hemlace. Combined with beautiful crystal buttons on both the sleeves and back, this fit and flare silhouette is as sexy as it is romantic. We love how it shows off the collarbones and the girls in the most flattering way!

2. J6511 by Moonlight

This flutter sleeved fit and flare dress is perfect for any bride wanting an extra sophisticated touch to her gown. The intricate beading and visual interest through the skirt flatters the hips and the additional beaded belt accentuated the waist. We love the idea of these beautiful flutter sleeves moving gently in the wind during an outdoor ceremony!

3. Bonnie by Rebecca Ingram

Bonnie is a lace-loving girl’s dream. This delicate floral pattern goes from shoulders to toes with a slight sweep train and sleeves that trumpet at the wrist. The soft, gentle silhouette forms to a woman’s curves while also allowing her the freedom to move and live during her wedding. Accompanied by a soft v-neck, this Rebecca Ingram gown is a perfect option for brides wanting simplistic but elegant beauty.

4.  Marsden by Hayley Paige

Okay, girls. If you are wanting the ultimate Renaissance romance dress, otherwise known as the ultimate princess gown, look no further than Marsden. With a beautiful, off-the-shoulder neckline reminiscent of Disney princesses, these sleeves actually detach via snap to create a strapless look for later – making this a two for one style! The unique lace patterning and subtle color underneath truly makes this a Hayley Paige masterpiece.

5. 6843 by Stella York

This airy, flowy a-line gown is the ultimate choice for any bride wanting a comfortable yet beautiful gown. The illusion sleeves combined with soft v-neck makes a beautiful silhouette while also being a low maintenance choice. The chiffon skirt is one of the softest fabrics you can choose for your big day and you’re sure to dance the night away!

6. Dennison by Sottero and Midgley

We love Sottero and Midgley’s unique looks and trendsetting styles. Dennison is no exception and a showstopper for any fashionista bride. The slit can be customized as the buttons go from train to neckline, making this dress’s sexiness totally customizable. The super bold lace patterning is an eye-catching statement and the train? Long and gorgeous!

7. 1054 by Martina Liana

This ultra formal, long-sleeved gown from Martina Liana is a masterpiece for any bride wanting modern romance. The bodice features sheer lace cutouts for a hint of sexy combined with sophistication. The front v is complicated by a matching v back, highlighting the shoulders and fabulous lace detailing of the sleeves. The cherry on top of this gown are the beautiful 3D floral elements, creating a multi-dimensional look that will keep your guests staring all night.

Fallen in love with any of these babies yet? We totally have! Try on any of these favorites at your bridal consultation!

Top 5 Trends You’ll See in 2020

March 25, 2019

There are few things we love more than spending time pouring over the newest, most beautiful wedding details that flood our beloved wedding magazines and blogs. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but we love getting inspired by other brides’ real wedding ideas and helping our brides incorporate their creative ideas into their own wedding day. There are few major trends we’re seeing for 2019 that we LOVE; below are five we personally love here at DG!

1. Acrylic/Lucite decor & details

There are few things more satisfying than a crisp & clean aesthetic. Many brides are choosing the beautiful, airy look of acrylic or lucite for their wedding details and we love it! Whether you’re doing signage, chairs, table & escort cards, invitations, or more, there are TONS of ways to include acrylic or Lucite into your wedding. Below are a few of our favorite examples. (Loving the acrylic ghost chairs? You can rent them from Supply Events based out of Manhattan, KS!)

2. Copper accents everywhere

Copper accents, along with other mixed metals, are becoming staples in modern weddings. Whether it’s copper piping creating beautiful signage or table settings, flecks of copper accents, colored flatware, or more, we think that this trend is great way to merge romantic and industrial design features.

3. Dried florals & grass pieces

While there will never be a true substitute for a gorgeous, luscious, bursting-with-life bouquet, there’s a definite trend toward edgier, drier look perfectly suited for neutrals. We love the dusty and whimsical look dried florals give, especially when paired with beautiful arrays of grasses, the most popular being pampas grass. Mandy Moore recently married her fiance in a burst of pampas grass and dried florals, creating a blush dried floral trend many brides are scrambling after. We love the creative use of monstera leaves, another popular wedding detail, as dried table settings!

4. Monstera leaves and tropical florals

We weren’t kidding when we said we’re seeing monstera everywhere! These beautiful, big leaves create a gorgeous tropical look that screams modern and bold. We love when brides use them singularly or combined together with other florals to create a multi-dimensional bouquet and accents. Whether you’re getting married on the beach or in a beautiful venue, monstera leaves are a perfect way to add a pop of greenery with a unique and cool tone.

5. Hanging elements, including florals and lighting!

Couples recently have been doing everything they can to create beautiful, memorable decor at their events, and there’s no better way to do that than to utilize ALL the square footage in your venue – and that includes the air! Having hanging accents allows for a romantic feeling while also letting you customize your day even further. Whether you’re loving the trendy floral hoops, the beautiful Edison light bulbs, or a fabulous combo between the two to make a unique accent piece, we are all for adding some dimension in the air!

Have some more 2019 wedding trends you’d like to see us feature? Drop us a comment or post on Facebook and we’d love to showcase your favorites!

#dgbride: Yesennia

March 12, 2019

Our latest #dgbride is Yesennia, who married her soulmate David on September 1, 2018 at their local Catholic church and their reception was at 54 West Music Hall. Their wedding featured beautiful ivory, gold, and mauve details and perfectly celebrated their Mexican American culture.

Yesennia planned her perfect day from scratch all on her own, utilizing Pinterest, wedding planner apps, and the help of friends and family. “I’m a very detail-oriented person and I love decorating,” she said, “so it was really hard for me to not be at the venue telling everyone where everything went. But I’m glad I didn’t because it turned out perfect!”

(How SWEET this is perfect shot of the couple? Instead of a first look, they opted for a sweet and tender moment together before their ceremony – but David still got to be surprised by her dress!)

Yesennia chose a beautiful Maggie Sottero gown to wear on her big day. It featured a strapless, sweetheart neckline and a corset back that allowed her to show off every curve! When she first started shopping for her gown, she distinctly did not want tulle. After trying a few dresses on, however, and being underwhelmed, her family and friends noticed a picture of a bride on our wall that featured a fitted, strapless gown with a tulle bottom. They convined Yesennia to try something similar and it ended up being The One!

“I only tried on about four dresses and I only visited Dress Gallery. I had originally planned to visit several, including travelling out of state, but after finding my dream dress with the help of my consultant, there was no way I was going anywhere else!”

“I loved my experience at Dress Gallery,” Yesennia said. “They treated me better than I could have ever asked for – with choosing my dress and afterwards. I couldn’t be more thankful that the DG staff took the time to help me look perfect in my dress on our wedding day!”

(We are also LOVING this picture of Yesennia and her girls in prayer before her ceremony. This is such a powerful and beautiful moment – it gave us goosies!)

Yesennia’s beautiful bouquet and other florals were courtesy of Sam’s Club and Dillon’s. We are LOVING how romantic and whimsical her dusty mauve and blue color palette looks! Especially combined with her whole bridal party – this is one STUNNING looking wedding party!

Brides often get the majority of the press when it comes to wedding day, but Dress Gallery was also honored to help David and his groomsmen find their perfect fit, too! We so appreciated them coming in and letting us style them to look great for their big debut, too! Here are some great group groomsmen shots (guess our fave):

Yesennia has the world’s best advice when it comes to brides planning their wedding day. “Don’t stress!” she said. “The day will fly by and I promise you won’t remember the little things. Enjoy every minute of the day because it goes by so quick. Also, get a videographer or AT LEAST a great photographer. They captured so many beautiful moments that I will treasure forever.”

We might be a little biased about Yesennia’s photos because not only are they drop dead GORGEOUS, but her photographer was actually Dress Gallery’s own official photog, Shelby Mahlandt of Shelby Laine Photography! We love Shelby’s documentary-style aesthetic and how she beautifully captures each couple’s unique wedding day, including Yesennia and David’s!

When we asked Yesennia’s favorite memory of her wedding day, her first dance with her husband immediately came to her mind. “At that moment, nothing else mattered,” she said. “It was me and my husband dancing to a song that describes us perfectly. It was a Spanish song titled ‘Mi Razon de Ser,’ which translates to ‘my reason of being’.”

Thank you so much, Yesennia and David, for including us in your special day. We are honored that you chose Dress Gallery to help you look and feel your best during your wedding. We wish you a lifetime of health and happiness!

Trends We Love: Women in Tuxes

March 6, 2019

We love helping brides and their maids find new, exciting, and innovative ways to create a unique aesthetic for their wedding – especially when it bucks tradition. Plus, what’s better than expressing yourself to your fullest – and what if you’re just not a dress type of girl? We totally get it! We want both brides and their bridal party to look and feel their best. Alex and Hunter, two of our formal wear consultants, decided to pioneer a creative shoot to showcase just how fierce girls can look in our rental tuxedos! Check out some of their photos below:

Both Alex and Hunter are rocking two black peak label tuxedos with white pleated shirts beneath. They kept it androgynous with the bowties and heels!

Hunter is rocking a black on black tuxedo look with fabulous beaded loafers and accentuated with a long, gold necklace.

Alex here is rocking our burgundy tuxedo, complete with matching pants and circle hat! She keeps it slightly casual by adding a statement graphic tee beneath – and we love the message!

We are loving how chic and powerful the girls look in these black suits, but we love a pop of color even more! Here are some fun, brighter looks they created.

Feel like rocking a tuxedo at your next special event? Our tuxedos are available for rental for all events, not just proms and weddings! Come in and let our formal wear specialists style you and feel as fierce as you possibly can!

DG Spotlight: Chelsea

February 18, 2019

Time for a new #dgWichita employee spotlight! Today’s highlight is on Chelsea, one of our bridal consultants and the newest member of the DG staff! Originally a KC native, Chelsea became a Wichita transplant after becoming a #dggirl. Chelsea interned at Bella Bridesmaids in Atlanta, Georgia after finishing her Apparel and Textile Marketing degree at K-State!

Chelsea is probably the chillest of the chill when it comes to bridal consultants. She is guaranteed to make you feel relaxed and comfortable during your appointment. Her favorite part of working with brides is helping dreams come true – whether that’s finding the perfect gown, accessorizing with the ultimate veil, or helping your bridesmaids look their absolute best.

When Chelsea ISN’T trying on the most gorgeous dresses we have and modelling them for us (watch for her on our Instagram!), she is the go-to girl for just about everything at Dress Gallery. Chelsea is a godsend because she’s ALWAYS available to be an extra set of hands. She is the coworker most likely to jump into a project without being asked, ready to help at a moment’s notice. Chelsea will often tag team with other consultants to help give brides the ultimate experience when there’s some available time. She’s also responsible for the majority of the bride communication that happens behind the scenes. Whether it’s addressing thank you cards, sending confirmation emails, or simply maintaining out digital system for brides, Chelsea is an irreplaceable help to the DG front desk.

But for real, how freaking stunning is she? Chelsea is also guaranteed to be the consultant that will make you feel truly like yourself during your appointment. She’s down-to-earth and REAL, one of the most important personality traits in a consultant. She’s all about telling her brides the truth and letting them understand the realities of their wedding planning. Combined with that, Chelsea is a problem solver. She’s determined in helping her brides find the perfect look for both their vision and budget.

When Chelsea’s not at Dress Gallery, she’s most likely napping. We’re half-kidding. She’s actually super likely to be watching a Kansas City Chiefs football game, cracking open a cold one with the boys. She has a great group of guy friends who often watch sporting events, and the Bachelor, together. Speaking of the Bachelor, Chelsea (& Courtney) is an avid member of Bachelor Nation. Bachelor wine nights are probably her favorite day of the week.

Chels was livin’ her best life at the Formation Tour! She is true member of the Hive, forever quoting Beyonce songs and breaking it down whenever she pops up on Spotify. Chelsea’s a big fan of dance bangerz and loves having a night out on the town dancing!

When she’s not fangirling over Beyonce, Chelsea loves spending time with her family. While we’re trying hard to make Wichita & DG a home away from home for her, we totally get it when she drives back up to KC for the weekend. We love seeing her on Monday mornings coming back refreshed and relaxed from a weekend with her fabulous family.

Also, you might have gotten the memo, but did you notice Chelsea’s EMAW obsession?

Here’s Chelsea having the moment of her life when she opened stemless wine glasses, fuzzy socks, and a ridiculous amount of face masks/eye treatment/bougie spa day essentials. We knew the minute she opened them that come the following Sunday, Chelsea would be Korean face-masking with a mimosa, watching her favorite shows!

While she might be new to town, Chelsea has already begun making the rounds for favorite restaurants and breweries. If she had her choice, she’d be eating Dempsey’s – specifically because “that qualifies for both burgers and brunch.” Solid choice, Chels. Solid choice.

Love is in the Air Styled Shoot

February 14, 2019

Recently, we collaborated with a group of wedding professionals on a styled shoot we affectionately called “Love is in the Air.” Shot by local photographer Tim Davis, we got the photos back and we are floored. We are always honored when we’re asked to collaborate with other creative professionals, but EVERYONE pulled out the stops for this beautiful shoot. Check out some of our favorite images!

The bride’s fabulous up-do perfectly matches the modern look of the dress and we love her peachy pink lip! Combined with the soft blush undertone of the dress and moody florals, this is a perfect color palette for February.

We couldn’t help but post all the photos of the beautiful bride, Hannah, smiling – her smile and energy was contagious throughout the entire shoot!

Can we also talk about her bouquet? Because really, HOLY WOW. This fabulous explosion of color and greenery perfectly encompasses the whimsical, romantic feeling of the photo shoot.

We have been in love with this Dany Tabet gown since the moment we got it in and we loved watching the dress come alive on Hannah. It truly looked like it was made for her.

The gorgeous venue creating the backdrop of all these photos is The Barn at Grace Hill in Newton, Kansas. We fell in love with the building’s white walls, clean lines, and pops of chic accents. (And one of our bridal consultants gets married there this year, too, so maybe we’re biased.)

While balloons might not be the first thing you associate with a timeless, beautiful wedding vision, local business Love of Character has the PERFECT artistic conceptions to create elegant, unique decor for your big day. Combined with beautiful florals, carefully curated tablescapes, and one deliciously modern cake, and this was truly a shoot to remember!

Hannah and Jordan were the perfect couple to shoot. Their 4 year wedding anniversary will be this May, but their love is as fresh and energetic as the day they met. You could see their love for each other in their eyes the entire day.

Check out those back details on the gown! Also, those decor accents courtesy of Endless Treasures are perfect!

We hope this love-filled, bubbly photo shoot fills you with as much joy as it did us!
